Dental Services

General Dentistry
We provide our patients with high quality general dental care, carrying out thorough examinations, discussing options and offering information, advice and guidance on how patients can best look after their teeth between appointments.

Hygienist
We refer patients to our own dental hygienists for periodontal treatment (scaling and polishing).

Oral Health Education We ensure that all our patients, including the younger ones, are provided with information, advice and guidance to inform their choices on maintaining healthy teeth and gums. We offer fissure sealants and oral health education sessions aimed specifically at our younger patients. See our related feature on the 'Oral Health' page.

Fresh Breath Treatments
We advise on ways to maintain fresh breath and stock a range of excellent fresh breath products.

Oral Screening
Oral cancer screening is routinely carried out at every dental examination. The hard and soft tissues of the mouth are thoroughly checked for any sign of abnormality. See our feature on oral cancer on the 'Oral Health' page.

Cosmetic Dentistry
Your smile sends a powerful message about you to other people and if you wish to improve your dental 'look', there are a number of options available to help you smile with confidence. The following are straighforward to correct:

• Discoloration of the teeth or fillings
• Gaps between teeth
• Missing teeth
• Crowded teeth
• Poorly shaped or chipped teeth
• Badly positioned teeth which affect your bite.

Previous dental work, including old fillings and crowns, can deteriorate and become cosmetically poor. These can be replaced or improved however, and we are able to offer the following cosmetic treatments to improve your smile:

• Tooth whitening
• Implants
• Porcelain inlays and veneers
• Porcelain-bonded crowns and bridges
• Replacement of amalgam fillings with white composite filling material.

Tooth Whitening
Teeth may become discoloured in a number of ways, for example through age, tobacco use or the consumption of certain foods and beverages. Simple tooth brushing, even with special toothpastes, will do little to whiten teeth. Professional cleaning by a dentist or hygienist will help, by removing superficial staining, but will not result in you regaining that youthful look!

Scientific studies have shown however, that certain tooth whitening treatments are safe and effective at whitening teeth. We offer these treatments at our practice and after an initial session in the surgery to kick-start the process, patients are able to continue with the treatment in their own homes.

This treatment involves using custom made bleaching trays filled with a bleaching gel and we will show you how to use the product to achieve the best results. You will control the final shade of your teeth, from one to several shades lighter. Tooth whitening does not normally involve any pain, although some transient sensitivity may be experienced. The full treatment usually takes 2 to 6 weeks.

Crowns, Bridges, Veneers and Implants

Crowns
Porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal give full coverage to teeth weakened by old fillings, decay or fractures and they can also be used to improve appearance.

Bridges
These are used to replace gaps caused by lost teeth and use porcelain bonded to a metal structure. The 'bridge' is supported by the teeth either side of the gap, and these teeth usually require some preparation.

Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain covers that are fixed to the front of cosmetically poor teeth using adhesive dentistry, and can make a dramatic improvement to visual appearance.

Implants
Dental implants are growing in popularity and represent an alternative way of replacing lost or cosmetically poor teeth. A titanium 'post' is inserted into the jaw and this supports the 'new' tooth.

Dentures, denture repairs and mouthguards
We provide a full range of denture services, using high quality materials and dental laboratories, including one that is just a few hundred metres away. This allows laboratory technicians to meet our patients for exact shade taking and 'same day' adjustments.

We now offer the new Valplast denture, an innovative flexible nylon denture, offering improved retention and avoiding metal clasps.   For those involved in sporting activities, we can have mouthguards custom made for differing sporting activities.

Home visits for the housebound
We will visit housebound patients at home.
